Are you aDigital Native or Digital Immigrant

Last Thursday in my Technology class at the NHU, I learned about Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants. A digital native can be defined as a person who was born after the introduction of digital technology. A digital immigrant is classified as person born before the introduction of digital technology.

I consider myself a digital immigrant who has been learning and adapting to the changes of the new technology era. Having two teenagers whom I consider digital natives has made me adjust my life to this new era.

As Digital immigrant, with my two kids I began to assimilate this new culture since they were in Middle school. This has brought a new vision and experience to my life. As a candidate to become a Teacher, I feel that I have to continue learning all the new trends continually occurring in the technology field.

Technology has begun to take a very important role in our schools. It is considered a new movement in changing education currently and in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare the teachers for this challenge through the access to technology resources and support from school districts or job sites, collaboration among peers and ongoing training. We live with technology around our lives every day.  As teachers, we must be ready to welcome this new era and take advantage in order to support and empower our students in the classroom with the new tools that gives us the use of technology.

  1. I truly agree with your reflexion about important role that technology plays in our students lives everyday. I also agree that we have to learn fast to be able to satisfy our students needs when it comes to providing instruction.
